To buy all of these games together usually costs about $50, and playing through all of them will take a good two- or three-dozen hours. Team Fortress Classic is the great granddaddy of role-based multiplayer shooters, and it's worth playing as an historical curiosity, if nothing else. Episodes 1 and 2 continue the story - but then leave it on a cliffhanger, which we hope that Half-Life: Alyx will help resolve.
Half-Life 2 is probably the high point of the series, moving the story forward by two decades and pitting protagonist Gordon Freeman against both aliens and a hostile fascist regime that's taken over Earth. Blue Shift offers a third perspective, as you take control of one of the security guards at the ill-fated lab. Opposing Force tells the same story, from the perspective of military operatives called in to cover the whole thing up. The first game is about a physicist who must fight off an alien invasion. In case you've never played them, all Half-Life games are first-person shooters with a good variety of physics-based puzzles sprinkled in. To launch a certain game, click its respective shortcut.To get the games, simply open the Steam client, navigate to the game you want to play, and press "Play Game." You'll then have to download and install it the rest is pretty straightforward. In the Valve folder, there are four shortcuts that will launch the games. Extract it and place the Valve folder inside Program Files.ģ. Download Valve.zip (2.9 GB compressed / 5 GB uncompressed).Ģ. There may be a workaround for this which I am not aware of.ġ. Singleplayer modes seem to work fine, but I was not able to connect to online servers since they rely on Steam. I manually extracted all the game files using WinRAR and GCFScape to skip installing Steam, then dropped in an emulated Steam.dll (courtesy of RevEmu) to trick the game into starting. People who purchased the game legitimately and want to play it on these operating systems are no longer able to do so through no fault of their own. This is a problem because Steam no longer supports XP or Vista. Half-Life 2 is compatible with Windows XP and Vista, but all versions of the game (even hard copies) require Steam before they will run.
